Flooding at the Engine House in St Ives

We were saddened to hear the news this week that the historic Engine House in St Ives has been affected by flooding following heavy rainfall.

The Engine House, a much-loved part of our town’s heritage and a popular stop for visitors interested in Cornwall’s industrial past, took in significant amounts of water after local drainage systems became overwhelmed. The ground floor and lower walls of the building have been damaged, and some community events scheduled at the venue have been postponed while safety checks and restoration work take place.

Local volunteers, emergency teams, and conservation specialists are already working hard to protect the structure and salvage important items. The Town Council has also confirmed that a full survey and repair plan will follow in the coming weeks.

Although it’s upsetting to see such a landmark under threat, St Ives has always shown resilience in the face of challenges. The Engine House has stood for generations, and with the right care and investment, it will continue to be part of the story of our town for years to come.
