Discover Cornwall’s mining heritage at Geevor, a preserved tin mine on the dramatic Atlantic coast at Pendeen and part of the Cornwall and West Devon Mining Landscape World Heritage Site. Explore the original mine buildings and Hard Rock Museum, learn how generations of miners worked, try mineral panning and put on a hard hat for the underground experience in the 18th-century Wheal Mexico Mine. The only complete tin mine in Cornwall open for underground guided tours and regarded as one of the most historic locations for Cornish Mining History. The mine is on several levels and encompasses with 18th century workings of the 1700’s but boasts pre-Roman origins in areas inaccessible to visitors. One of the most recognised landmarks in Cornwall the Minack theatre was a project by Rowena Cade who lived in Minack House at the top of the cliff who decided to create a place for local drama enthusiasts to perform Shakespeare’s The Tempest. The Granite theatre carved into the cliff face itself opened with its first performance in August 1932. Today the theatre welcomes over 80,000 people to the performances and a further 150,000 just to look around. Discover the roots of the modern age of communications. The Porthcurno Telegraph Museum is the location of the first underwater communications cable linking Porthcurno to Bombay India. Rising from Mount’s Bay opposite Marazion, St Michael’s Mount combines a historic castle, harbour village, subtropical garden and one of Cornwall’s most distinctive coastal views. At low tide you can walk across the ancient cobbled causeway; when the tide is in, boats carry visitors to and from the island.
